We all arrived in Spokane Tuesday and made our ways to the hotel near the Amtrak station and Riverside Park. We had a full day in Spokane because the train wasn’t leaving until after midnight. In spite of the rain, we enjoyed being children at heart and playing in the giant Red Flyer wagon and riding the 1909 carousel.
The Looff Carrousel is one of America's most beautiful and well preserved hand-carved wooden carousels. It features 54 horses, 1 giraffe, 1 tiger, and 2 Chinese dragon chairs. It was built by master carver and amusement ride maker Charles I.D. Looff, who created the first carousel at Coney Island, N.Y. in 1876. While most carrousels in the U.S. turn clockwise, Looff Carrousels turn counter-clockwise.
Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane was an old rail yard 50 years ago. Then it was turned into the site of the 1974 World's Fair.
Highlights included Spokane Falls, Upper and Lower.
We enjoyed lunch at The Onion in the 1907 former Regis Hotel.
Throughout the day Rodney and Karen enjoyed capturing the reflections of various scenes around Riverfront Park.
